The Man Who Planted Trees By Jean Giono I was going to transcribe the text for the following pages myself from the Chelsea Green Publishing copy that I have, but ended up finding the text online several years ago and copied the page. I don't remember exactly were I found it, but have confirmed that the text is the Chelsea Green Publishing translation. It seems that there are two copyrighted translations of Jean Giono's original story. One by Chelsea Green Publishing, which includes great wood carvings by Michael McCurdy and a second copyrighted translation by CBC Enterprises, the Canadian company that produced the film version that I had originally seen on PBS. I own both versions and the video. I am including all copyright information here. But first I would like to reiterate that I take no ownership of the content in these pages, only the design and layout. These pages were created out of my passion for the story and my desire to make a personal backup of the information I already have in hardcopy and video format. I gathered the text from a web site which I don't remember, I scanned in the wood carving images and optimized them for my personal onscreen viewing, and I found the images for my opening page from several different web sites. It is not my intent to distribute copyrighted information to the general public. These pages are my personal pages. If you are here to read the story, please go and by the book or video from one of the copyrighted sources listed here. It is my understanding from the research I have done and the sources that I have read that Jean Giono intended to "donate his pages to all and sundry" offering his story to the public domain.
